Balanced Stripes
Symmetrical layout, in which colored bands are arranged around
a "center". |

Banding
An abnormality occurring in gradations causing a stair-stepped
appearance. Introducing noise to a gradient will help to reduce
banding. |

Bandwidth
A measure for the speed (amount of data) you can send through
an Internet connection. The more bandwidth, the faster the connection. |

Banner
Header or title of magazine or periodical publication and a Web
page. Graphical advertisements are placed in banners on web sites. |

Baseline:
In typography, the imaginary horizontal line upon which
the main body of the letters sits. Rounded letters actually dip
slightly below the baseline to give optical balance. |

Baud
The number of symbols per second sent over a channel. |

BBS (Bulletin Board System)
A web based public system for sharing discussions, files, and
announcements. |

Bevel
Process of giving raised appearance by using highlighting colors
and shadows. |

Bitmap
A bitmap is a graphic file that is made up of square
dots (pixels). Scaling these images to larger sizes result
in these pixels becoming larger which can make the image
look blocky with jagged edges. |

Black (font)
Font that has more weight than the bold version of a
typeface. |

Bleed
Method used in print to have ink printed right up to
the edge of a page. The way this is done is by having the document
printed on a larger page. Then the printer prints 1/8th (usually)
of an inch beyond the document size on each side, and is then
cut to size. |

Botanical
A design showing realistic representation of herbs, garden
plants, and other botanical objects. Also designs based on botanical
illustrations. |

Browser
Software for accessing, viewing and managing web pages. |

Bullet
Dot at the beginning of a line or phrase used to get
attention. |
